Robert J. Anello has litigated in the federal and state courts for more than twenty-nine years.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the President-elect of the Federal Bar Council.  His practice includes white collar criminal defense, complex civil litigation, and internal corporate investigations and reviews.  His white collar practice involves representing defendants charged with a wide range of business crimes, regulatory and tax violations, and civil frauds.  His clients include individuals and institutions such as law firms, accounting firms, banks, and brokerage firms.  In addition to his practice as a trial and appellate lawyer, Mr. Anello specializes in pretrial representation, internal investigations, and representation of professionals before ethics and licensing boards.  Mr. Anello has acted as independent, outside counsel to Deloitte & Touche LLP and Morgan Stanley in connection with those firms’ participation in SEC Look-Back Programs, which have included reviews of the firms’ internal compliance programs.

Mr. Anello is an author of the White Collar Crime column for the New York Law Journal as well as a frequent contributor to numerous other publications and a speaker on topics in the area of white collar criminal law, securities law, professional ethics, and trial tactics.  Mr. Anello is a member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Bar Council and the Chairman of the Audit Committee for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.  He is the past chair of the Association’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and a past member of the Association’s Committee on Professional and Judicial Ethics, the Criminal Courts Committee, and the Judicial Committee.  He recently was named as a member of the Association’s Ad Hoc Committee on Multi-disciplinary Practice and the Ad Hoc Committee Task Force on the Role of Lawyers in Corporate Governance.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association’s House of Delegates.  He has been a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Southern District of New York for twenty years.  In addition, Mr. Anello is a member of numerous bar associations including the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, (member, Professional Responsibility Committee) the Securities Industry Association, the American Bar Association’s Forfeiture Section, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and has been elected to the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation and the New York State Bar Foundation.  Mr. Anello is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Organ Donor Network and a member of its Audit Committee.
