Paul R. Grand is a leading white-collar criminal defense attorney with extensive experience handling complex criminal and civil matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout the country, including in the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Grand received the New York Council of Defense Lawyers’ Norman Ostrow Award in 1993 for significant contribution to the defense function. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, New York Magazine – The New York Area’s Best Lawyers, New York Super Lawyers – Manhattan Edition, and The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.

After receiving a B.A. from Harvard College and an LL.B. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a James Kent Scholar and an editor of the Law Review, Mr. Grand served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and became Chief of its Securities Frauds Unit. He was a founding partner of Grand & Ostrow, a Morvillo Abramowitz predecessor, and became a principal of Morvillo Abramowitz in 1989.

Mr. Grand defended Timothy Rigas, the former Chief Financial Officer of Adelphia Communications Corporation, and currently represents the former President of Qwest Communications International, Inc. in several civil litigations. He also represents several officers of public companies as well as representatives of industries being investigated by agencies of the United States or New York State.

Mr. Grand is the author of “Using Expert Testimony to Enhance a White-Collar Criminal Defense” (American Bar Association, White-Collar Crime Institute, 1993) and a co-author of “The Government’s Use of RICO in Recent Cases” (Practicing Law Institute, Broker Dealer Institute, 1989). He speaks frequently on various topics related to white-collar criminal cases.

From 1983 through 2002, Mr. Grand served as chairman of the Magistrates Selection Panel for the Southern District of New York. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Criminal Justice, White-Collar Crime, and Litigation Sections), the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the New York Council of Defense Lawyers.

Mr. Grand is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a former director of the Federal Bar Council and of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers.

Mr. Grand is admitted in New York and to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Courts of Appeal for the Second, Fourth and Eighth Circuits, the District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the U.S. Tax Court.
