Christopher J. Morvillo specializes in the representation of individual and corporate clients in federal and state white-collar criminal matters, parallel enforcement and civil proceedings, and internal investigations.  His recent representations have involved investigations and prosecutions in a variety of substantive areas, including insider trading, theft of trade secrets, securities fraud, accounting fraud, healthcare fraud, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the Arms Export Control Act.

After receiving a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1992, where he was the Articles and Book Reviews Editor for the Fordham International Law Journal, Mr. Morvillo clerked for the Honorable Kevin Thomas Duffy, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York, from 1992 to 1994.  Following his clerkship, Mr. Morvillo joined the Litigation Department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, in New York as an associate from 1994 to 1999. At Weil Gotshal, Mr. Morvillo’s practice concentrated primarily on white-collar criminal defense, but he also gained significant experience litigating First Amendment, intellectual property, and complex commercial cases.

From 1999 to 2005, Mr. Morvillo served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he investigated and tried a wide variety of criminal cases in the areas of fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, counter-terrorism, and narcotics. Mr. Morvillo assisted in the criminal investigation arising out of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  For his work as one of the lead prosecutors on a major multi-defendant international terrorism investigation and prosecution (resulting in the convictions of all defendants on all charges following a ten-month trial), Mr. Morvillo received the 2005 Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service, the Justice Department’s highest award.

Mr. Morvillo joined Morvillo Abramowitz in 2005 as Counsel and became a Partner in 2010.  He has co-authored several articles on white-collar crime, is a member of the New York City Bar Association (member of the Judiciary Committee, and past member of the Council on Criminal Justice), the Federal Bar Council (past member of the Second Circuit Courts Committee), and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law, where he teaches Legal Writing.  Mr. Morvillo is listed in the 2009 New York Super Lawyers - Metro Edition.  He is admitted in New York and Connecticut and to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
