Jonathan S. Sack has extensive experience litigating complex civil and criminal cases. He represents individuals and companies in federal and state criminal, civil and regulatory matters and conducts internal investigations.
Jonathan received an A.B. degree from Harvard University and a J.D. degree from Yale Law School. After serving as law clerk to W. Arthur Garrity, Jr., Senior U.S. District Judge for the District of Massachusetts, he served for thirteen years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, where he handled significant prosecutions in the areas of securities and financial institution fraud, RICO violations, export control offenses, money laundering, and drug trafficking. While Chief of the Criminal Division there, he oversaw investigations and prosecutions conducted by more than one hundred Criminal Division Assistant U.S. Attorneys in all areas of federal criminal law. He tried more than a dozen federal cases and has argued on numerous occasions in the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In 1996, he received a Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Prior to becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Jonathan was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore; he returned to private practice in 2003, joining Morvillo Abramowitz as a principal.
Jonathan is co-author of the revised edition of Federal Corporate Sentencing: Compliance and Mitigation (Law Journal Seminars Press), a leading treatise in the fields of corporate sentencing and compliance. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at St. John’s University School of Law, where he teaches a course in white-collar crime, and regularly publishes articles and speaks on issues relating to the representation of companies and individuals in criminal, regulatory and internal investigations.
Jonathan is a member of the Advisory Committee on Civil Litigation of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He belongs to numerous professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association (past member of the Federal Courts and Criminal Law Committees), the Federal Bar Council (Chairman of the U.S. Attorneys Internship Committee, and member of the Second Circuit Courts Committee), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Jonathan is on the Executive Committee of the Yale Law School Association. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Executive Counsel magazine.
Jonathan is admitted in New York and Connecticut and to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
