We are a firm passionately dedicated to pursuing justice for our clients. At our core is a deep and abiding abhorrence of injustice and a belief in our legal system as a means to fight it. That is why the horror of the killing of Black men and women at the hands of law enforcement, exemplified starkly by George Floyd’s death, have struck all of us so profoundly. These events have called upon us to reaffirm our values of inclusiveness, tolerance, fairness and dedication to the rule of law, and to consider what we are doing and what more we can do to foster these values and to combat racism in all of its forms.
Promoting justice is at the heart of our mission. We have pursued that mission since the founding of our firm through our zealous advocacy on behalf of clients, our court-appointed and pro bono work, and our philanthropic efforts. For many years, we have been a sustaining member of the Legal Aid Society; our partners have served on the Boards of Directors of the Legal Aid Society, the New York Legal Assistance Group, and New York Lawyers for Public Interest; and as a firm we have proudly provided both financial support and/or pro bono resources to these and other organizations, including Legal Outreach, Mobilization for Justice, and Sanctuary for Families, devoted to helping underserved communities and individuals in need. To further these efforts, we also recently joined the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance.
Recent events reinforce the need for us to come together and affirm our commitment to combatting racism and discrimination and to seeking diversity and inclusion at all levels of our firm. As we consider the demands of these challenging times, the firm encourages all its employees to consider how their individual deeds, each and every day, can contribute to helping those in need and fostering a more inclusive community, both within the firm and in society as a whole.
