Athletics can be an important part of the college experience, helping to build a sense of community and loyalty that can last a lifetime. While some have advocated paying college athletes to address the perceived hypocrisy of student-athletes generating millions in revenues in exchange for scholarships, that step will not mitigate many of the risks facing athletic departments.
